Senate Joint Memorial #40 "Study Off-Road Motorized Vehicle Use" Passed by the State Legisalture

Joint Memorial #40 "Study Off-Road Motorized Vehicle Use" requests the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department and the Department of Game and Fish to cooperate in conducting a study on off-road motorized vehicle use.

Phil Griego (DEM) and Jeanette Wallace (REP) sponsored Joint Memorial #13 'Traditional Ways of Life in Forest Plan' in the 2008 New Mexico Legislation Session. Joint Memorial #13 asks the Forest Service to follow their guidelines in implementing the Travel Management Rule and preserve the traditional New Mexican way of life. It also asks the Forest Service to design a Travel Management Plan for Off-Road Vehicles that is enforceable. This Memorial mentions the destruction by off-roaders on the Jemez and the Glorieta Mesa, and asks that the Forest Service take environmental and wildlife habitat into consideration when designing these off-road routes. Joint Memorial #13 passed the House and Senate by unanimous votes.

During the interim period between sessions the memorials will start to act. SJM13 will be directed to the Forest Service and SJM40 will go to 4 state departments requesting studies showing the effects (physical, resource, financial, lifestyle, wildlife, etc, etc) of ORV's in our communities and wild lands. Thanks to everyone's support and phone calls to get these memorial's passed!

Both Joint Memorial #13 and #40 passed both the House and Senate!
